Susan Ann Wilson, obituary
ROCKLAND — On October 24, 2022, Susan Ann Wilson passed peacefully from this earth surrounded by loved ones. After a yearlong battle with cancer, she’s gone to be with her beloved daughter, Shelly, who predeceased her by almost a year ago exactly. Susan was predeceased by her parents, Marion “Mama Duck” and Arthur Hart, and her brother Peter; and is survived by her brother David, of Virginia. She will be missed.
While we are heartbroken, we take comfort in the fact that she is no longer suffering. She leaves behind a son, Tom Dayhoof, and his wife, Annie Brown; two grandkids, Emmit and Althea Dayhoof; two granddaughters, Kassidy Robinson and Lily Wilson; and, to her great delight, a great grandson, Axel, born a week ago to Kassidy and her partner, Adin.
Mom was a larger than life figure in our community, having worked for years at the Owls Head Town Office, the Rockport Town Office, Samoset Resort, and as an in-home care nurse. She ran countless elections, town functions, and took great delight in serving the people of the communities that she loved. She grew up on Mama Duck’s farm on the Alford Lake Road, attended Hope School and Camden High School. Always a hard worker, she helped raise giant gardens, ran the blueberry crew, did canning, and putting food by. She knit sweaters for extra money at Christmas time.
She worked tirelessly her entire life, raising both her granddaughters, while Shelly was unable. Shelly eventually got better and things were going well, until the unfortunate day that she passed unexpectedly. Mom picked it all right back up and, despite being so sick, carried on until it was her time.
She leaves behind a million friends and family, endless hours of laughter, and bad jokes. She was always curious, interested in new things, and quick with encouragement. If it teaches anything, it’s that you should take the time to say the important things to the people who need to hear them. She was rich in friendships, including special relationships with her cousin, Marie, and stalwart friends Jill, Judy, Cindy, Franny, Tim and Kathy.
Words cannot express the amount of gratitude our family has for the community’s support over the last year. We are forever grateful.
As was her way, all are invited to share in a time of celebration of her life Monday, November 7, 2022, from 4 to 6 p.m., at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
