Gertrude M. Whitcomb, obituary
WALDO — Gertrude M. Whitcomb, 91, passed away on Sept. 8, 2022 at The Commons at Tall Pines, Belfast. She was born at home to Ralph H. and Lillian (Wilton) Whitcomb on July 2, 1931 in Waldo, where she lived all her life. She was the 10th child and the last to pass away out of 15 children.
Gertrude enjoyed The Republican Journal, devil dogs, search word puzzles and her television.
She was predeceased by her parents; and siblings, Alice Marshall, Fremont Whitcomb, Eli Whitcomb, Eva Greenwood, Ida Dyer, Ella Bowden, Frank Whitcomb, Carl Whitcomb, Hazel Gallant, Lewis Whitcomb, Eleanor Stratton, Richard Whitcomb, Robert Whitcomb and William "Francis" Whitcomb.
She was also predeceased by her nieces Beverly (Dyer) Martin and Brenda Greenwood, and nephews Eli "Sonny" Whitcomb, Raymond Greenwood and Ronald Greenwood.
Gertrude is survived by her brother-in-law, Earle Stratton of Rhode Island; many nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Her family thanks the doctors and staff for her good care at The Commons at Tall Pines, Waldo County General Hospital, WCGH Emergency Department and Arthur Jewell Health Center.
Her favorite color was yellow. To honor her, if you would like, wear yellow to her graveside services to be held September 25, at 1 p.m., at Paul Cemetery in Waldo. Bonnie Greenwood will be doing the service. Because of Covid, there will be no formal gathering after the service.
