Midcoast nonprofits receive Community Matters More grants
ROCKLAND — Five Midcoast nonprofits are among grant recipients of the Bangor Savings Bank Foundation’s 2019 Community Matters More program.
The 12th annual grant program awarded more than $140,000 to 55 Maine and New Hampshire nonprofit organizations chosen by a public ballot voting process.
More than 75,000 votes were submitted during the month of February, with votes for more than 2,600 unique nonprofits located in Maine and New Hampshire.
The top two vote recipients in each of the 11 regions received a $5,000 grant. Thirty-three other organizations listed on the ballot, including 11 write-ins with the most votes in each region, each received a $1,000 grant.
P.A.W.S. Animal Adoption Center, Rockport, and Belfast Soup Kitchen, in Belfast, are the top winners from Knox/Lincoln/Sagadahoc/Waldo counties.
Local winners of the $1,000 grants are Neighbor’s Cupboard, in Winterport; One Less Worry, in Rockland; and Window Dressers, in Rockland.
“Once again, community members rallied for their favorite local nonprofits – helping them win a grant and supporting the role they play within their community,” said Bangor Savings Bank President and CEO Bob Montgomery-Rice, in a news release. “We look forward to seeing the impact of this year’s Community Matters More grants on dozens of communities across Maine and New Hampshire.”
Since 2007, Community Matters More has awarded $1,297,500 in grants to more than 530 different nonprofit organizations.
