Maine Behavioral Healthcare issued a news release July 30 saying that given the recent surge in opioid overdoses, Waldo County General Hospital wants to remind the community that expanded care for Opioid Abuse Disorder is currently available in Belfast and in Rockport.

Recovery from opioid use disorder has proven most effective when those seeking treatment receive personalized care, the release said.

EMBARK is a substance use program that offers access to multiple levels of care depending on personal needs, using a combination of counseling and medication-assisted therapy to provide addiction treatment, even for those who may have tried before without success. 

In a culture of compassion and respect, each individual with opioid use disorder is evaluated to identify the appropriate care level for treatment, which span a continuum of approaches from inpatient detoxification through outpatient Integrated Medication Assisted Treatment (IMAT), the release said.

Pen Bay Medical Center and Waldo County General Hospital have created a direct link between its behavioral health care programs and our primary care practices.  

“If  you or a loved one are seeking treatment for opioid use disorder, the primary care practices at Pen Bay Medical Center and Waldo County General Hospital have appointments available to help patients access and coordinate the next steps of treatment,” the release said. “In addition to outpatient treatment, for those patients in more acute phases of opioid use disorder, Pen Bay Medical Center provides inpatient treatment at the Psychiatric and Addiction Recovery Center (PARC) in Rockport.”

The Embark program is able to provide treatment for patients at every level of recovery.

“Once you have attained a level of stability with your recovery in Embark, we will transition your care to either your current primary care doctor or you will be connected with a Pen Bay Medical Center or Waldo County General Hospital primary care doctor who will manage your treatment in Rockport or Belfast,” the release said.  “We are able to provide care to those patients that are covered by private insurance, Medicaid and offer financial assistance for those without coverage.
