Waldo County school district wins Full Plates Full Potential grant
Full Plates Full Potential, Maine’s only statewide childhood hunger organization, has announced the 2019’s 16 County Summer Grant Competition winner for Waldo County. RSU 3 will receive a $500 Summer Meals Program Grant to support their 2020 summer program.
“Our program was successful last summer because we added more sites in our district and also hosted a kick off assembly,” said Tina Fabian, of RSU 3, in a Full Plates news release.
Full Plates’ 16 County Summer Grant Competition was launched to highlight the critical work summer food programs do reaching the over 80,000 children who qualify for free and reduced-price school meals.
“We are so proud of the RSU 3 summer meals program. During Summer 2019, they served 4,732 meals which is an increase of 779 meals over 2018” said Anna Korsen, Full Plates Full Potential’s Director of Advocacy and Partnerships. “Summer is an extremely challenging time for children effected by hunger. Our 16 County Grant Program aims to showcase and reward the best of summer programs across our state.”
Maine Summer Stats:
Maine has 122 Summer Food Service Programs with 467 meal sites across the state. This summer, 727,612 meals were served statewide.
