ROCKLAND — The UMA Rockland Center (URock) will offer a 7-week course AVI 100, "Commercial Drone School" from March 26 through May 9. The course will meet at the UMA Rockland Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 - 6:45 p.m.

This course prepares the student to pass the FAA Knowledge Exam for Remote Pilot Operators. Course material exposes the student to the world of small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) to include sUAS flight training.

Opportunities within aviation and the world of sUAS are discussed, and the student is introduced to both hobby and commercial uses of sUAS.

The course will be taught by two University of Maine at Augusta faculty in the Aviation Program. One of them, Dan LeClair, is the Northeast Regional Commander for the Civil Air Patrol and has been involved with national drone training programs for the last six years.

The non-credit course is open to the public and planning is underway to offer a series of courses to prepare graduates for the FAA exams required of licensed drone pilots.

The cost of the course is $400 and registration is currently underway.
