Thomas William Christie, obituary
CAMDEN — Thomas William Christie, 93, of Camden, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on January 29th, 2024.
Tom was born in Watertown, New York on March 9, 1930, and was the son of Robert and Hazel Christie. After graduating from Brownville-Glen Park Central High School in 1947, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy.
While stationed at Winter Harbor in 1954, Tom met the love of his life, Carol Falls, in Ellsworth, and they wed on April 23, 1955. They went on to have 11 children: Thomas Jr., Patricia, James, Susan, Michael, Margaret, Teresa, Stephen, Catherine, Charles, and Mary.
Tom’s travel stops while building his family in the Navy included Bremerhaven, Germany; Ellsworth, Maine; Terceira Island in the Azores; Skaggs Island, California; Adak, Alaska; Pearl City, Hawaii; and finally, Winter Harbor. He retired in October of 1969.
Tom took a job with the Camden Post Office in 1970 moving his family moved to Camden. In 1983, Tom served as Postmaster of the Lincolnville Beach Post Office retiring in 1990.
Tom was a hard-working family man determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His wife and family meant more to him than anything else in the world.
Tom was an avid ten-pin bowler and played tennis, basketball, golf, and softball. He was a master at lawn darts, and loved to play a variety of card and board games with the family, always teasing his opponents with his witty sense of humor.
Tom spent most of his spare time supporting his 11 children in the many sports and activities they participated in throughout their school careers. He and Carol attended numerous basketball, gymnastics, soccer, field hockey, baseball, XC, swimming, track and field, and concert/performance events throughout the years and when the grandchildren came along, they continued to support them just as much.
Tom was also very involved in the Camden community as a member of the Lions Club. He was one of the longest tenured members. He volunteered at the food pantry, was the Treasurer of 63 Washington Street Home for Aged Women, and a Eucharistic Minister and longtime communicant of Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church.
Tom and his loving wife, Carol, loved to travel and actually spent at least one night in every state in the U.S. They loved seeing the sites, visiting family and friends, and truly enjoyed their trips to Europe.
Anyone who knew Tom knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for.
