Start of school year at Oceanside High School delayed one day
ROCKLAND — The start of the new school year will begin one day later than planned for students at Oceanside High School.
The school had its Fire Safety and Code inspections performed Thursday, Aug. 29 and received a short list of some corrections to be made in order to be certified to open, according to Superintendent John C. McDonald.
Thus, McDonald announced in a letter to parents the start of school will slightly be delayed to give staff and custodians a bit of extra time to settle into their new spaces as the school was recently renovated, including a new cafeteria, classrooms, exercise room, weight room and locker rooms.
The freshman will now begin Wednesday, Sept. 4, instead of Sept. 3, and the rest of the high school will begin Thursday, Sept. 5.
All other district schools will open as scheduled Tuesday, Sept. 3.
For students at Oceanside High school, classes will be held Friday, Sept. 13, instead of a scheduled building-based workshop day. Other schools in the district will have the workshops as previously scheduled.
“Given the scope of the renovations and the very aggressive construction schedule, we are very pleased to be able to accomplish this (nearly) on time opening,” McDonald wrote in the letter. “We would like to thank our contractors and construction manager for being so accommodating and helpful in helping us meet our opening date so closely.”
A ribbon cutting and open house to celebrate the school’s renovations will be scheduled in the near future.
