‘Snowed In With Stefan’ Pastuhov at Camden Falls Gallery
CAMDEN — For the remainder of the winter, Camden Falls Gallery will feature a collection of winter plein air paintings by local artist, Stefan Pastuhov. All of the works depict scenes from the local area and were created within a 10-mile radius of the artist's Lincolnville home.
"You don't have to go far to find beautiful scenes in Maine," said Pastuhov in a news release, acknowledging that he sometimes spends considerable time driving around looking for "just the right places" to paint.
In this collection, those places include quiet snow-covered woods, hillsides, and back roads from Warren to Belmont, as well as several picturesque locations found within the artist's own backyard.
While painting en plein air during Maine's cold winters, Pastuhov approached his work "with alacrity," remarking that "there's just so much more information (to paint) when you are actually outside than you can ever get from a photo."
"You can't paint when it's below zero (and) you can only paint until your feet get cold, then you have to stop. When you're standing in one place that happens, but I have boots that are good to -60 degrees and a one-piece arcticwear suit. The trick is to not make the painting look too cold," said Pastuhov in the news release.
Stefan's winter work will be on view until things warm up a bit. Camden Falls Gallery will be open Friday – Sunday, weather permitting or by appointment, using the Bayview Street entrance through The Maine Gathering.
