The snow is falling, early closings starting to come in ahead of sleet
The first winter snowstorm has arrived in the Midcoast, bringing with it snow early Tuesday that will turn to sleet and possibly freezing rain after noon. A large portion of the state is expected to see 4 to 8 inches of snow and sleet, making for a very hazardous travel day.
Schools are on vacation this week, but the following closures and delays have been reported for Dec. 29. To include your event cancellation, send information to news@penbaypilot.com.
Closings:
• Gibbs Library in Washington is closed.
• The Searsport Town Office is closing at noon.
• The Searsport Public Library is closed.
• The Searsmont Town Office is closed.
• The Searsmont Public Library is closed.
• Knox County Superior Court and Rockland District Court are closed.
• University of Maine Hutchinson Center in Belfast is closed.
• University College at Rockland is closed.
• Harmony Bible Church in South Thomaston has canceled Bible study tonight.
• All Camden National Bank locations will close at 3 p.m.
• The Owls Head Transportation Museum will be closing at 1 p.m.
• All Penobscot Bay YMCA childcare sites (Rockport, Rockland and MRC) are closing at 4 p.m. There will be no youth programming today. All YMCA facilities will be closing at 5 p.m.
• Waldo County YMCA childcare is closing at 4 p.m. and the pools are closing at 4:30 p.m. There is no Bluefish practice, and the facility is closing at 5 p.m.
• The Belfast Co-op will close at 3 p.m., while its deli will close at 2 p.m.
• American Legion Post No. 1, Rockland, is closed.
• The Jackson Memorial Library in Tenants Harbor is closed.
Cancellations, postponements:
• Rise of the Guardians film at Camden Opera House has been rescheduled to Dec. 30.
