ROCKLAND — Rockland Public Library and the Coastal Children's Museum have teamed up for a School Supply Drive to benefit the Regional School Union 13 school district. Donations will be accepted throughout the month of August at the Library, which is located at 80 Union St. in Rockland, or the Children's Museum located at 75 Mechanic St. in Rockland.

Donations of various items needed by both students and teachers are requested. Items needed include:

• Paper- lined paper, copy paper, construction paper, spiral notebooks, composition books, index cards

• Writing utensils- black and blue pens, #2 pencils, colored pencils, erasers, pencil sharpeners, pencil case, colored markers, crayons, highlighters, Dry-Erase markers

• General Supplies- paper clips, three-ring binders, pocket folders, report covers

• Classroom staples- stapler, staples, rulers, protractors, glue sticks, scissors, tape, calculators

• Miscellaneous- tissues, sanitizing wipes, hand sanitizer, backpack, lunchboxes

More than 50 percent of the students in the RSU 13 district are eligible for free or reduced lunches due to low household income.

"Both the Children's Museum and the Library are paramount organizations in our community for families to learn and grow together," said Elise Huff, outreach and program coordinator for the Coastal Children's Museum. "To think that some of the children who walk through our doors have to go to school without pens, notebooks or lunchboxes, or carry their books because they can't afford a new backpack is heartbreaking. So, we're doing something about it and we're asking for help from the community."

Donations can be dropped off at either location from Aug. 1-31, during open hours. Rockland Public Library is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Coastal Children's Museum's August hours are Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; and Sunday, 1-4 p.m.
