Municipal assessors and AIO hold ‘Thanks for Giving Food and Diaper Drive’
The assessing departments for the City of Rockland and the towns of Camden and Rockport, have teamed up with the AIO Food & Energy Assistance to help those in need held an Election Month Food and Diaper Drive, which is continuing for another week. In Rockport, nonperishable items and disposable diapers are being collected at the Rockport Town Office.
Thanks for Giving was started in 2012 by Lyman assessor, Gina Merry. Gina’s food drive benefitted Lyman’s local food pantry. After Gina lost a battle with cancer in 2016 Lyman decided to honor her memory by continuing the annual food drive.
Gina’s husband, Joe Merry, assessor in Standish, inspired by his wife’s vision and Lyman’s decision to honor her memory, contacted assessors across the state asking them to participate in Thanks for Giving food drives throughout Maine.
Camden, Rockport and Rockland’s assessors got on board, as did their election official colleagues. When they formed a partnership with AIO, diapers were added to the mission. (Sizes 4,5 and 6 are needed most but any size is welcome.)
Take non-perishable foods and diapers to the Rockport Public Library and the Rockport Town Office, where collection boxes are stationed.
Midcoast assessors thank you!
