Morton David Alling III, obituary
SEARSPORT — Morton David Alling, III, 79, passed away at home on Thursday, January 4, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Born February 20, 1944, to Catherine Lassen Alling and Morton David Alling, Jr., David lived in West Hartford, Connecticut, where he graduated from William H. Hall High School in 1962. He then graduated from Bryant University in 1966 with a B.S. Degree in Business Management.
David began his career with IBM Corporation, where he would spend the next 38 years in numerous management leadership positions across the globe. Summers were always spent on Quantabacook Lake in Maine with family and friends. After retiring from IBM in 2004, David and his wife, Dorothy, moved to their retirement home in Searsport, Maine.
David was a devoted husband, father, community leader, and friend. He was a Master Mason 32nd Degree since 1970 and also a 32nd Degree Master Mason Scottish Rites since 1992. Upon moving to Searsport, David joined the Board of Directors of the Waldo County Habitat for Humanity and was very involved with the Katahdin Area Council and Waldo District Boy Scouts of America earning many awards, including the National Silver Beaver Award. David was a member of the First Congregational Church of Searsport, where he was a committee member for the restoration of the stained glass windows and used his woodworking skills to build the Bible stand, candlestick holders with the Cross stand, flower alter vase stand, and pew card holders.
David leaves behind his adoring wife and soul mate of nearly 55 years, Dorothy Darrow Alling; his daughter, Darlene Marino and son-in-law, Richard Marino, of Horseheads, New York; son, Morton David Alling, IV and daughter-in-law, Rachael Alling, of Auburn, New Hampshire; grandchildren, Genevieve Marino, Dominick Marino, Eva Alling, and Morton (Mo) David Alling, V; brother, Richard Alling and sister-in-law, Helen Alling of Torrington, Connecticut; sister-in-law, Marjorie Eaton, of Narberth, Pennsylvania; cousins James Robbins, Jenness Robbins, and Roberta Walker; nephews, R. Douglas Alling and John Eaton; and nieces, Dawn Onishi, Wendy Lundy, and Gina Eaton.
David was predeceased by his parents.
The family would like to extend specials thanks to David’s faithful CNA, Carol Moody; caretaker, Jessica Hall; and Maine Health Care Hospice Home Care from the Sussman House of Rockport, Maine.
A celebration of David’s life and Masonic funeral will be held Friday, January 12, at 11 a.m., at the First Congregational Church of Searsport. Reception immediately follows in Curtis Hall.
