‘Light, Color, and Nature’ exhibit at Belfast’s Kramer Gallery
BELFAST — An exhibit of watercolor landscapes by Jaeohk Cho Keenan titled “Light, Color, and Nature” will be on display in the Kramer Gallery of the Belfast Free Library through August. Located on the ground floor of the Library, the Kramer Gallery is open during library hours.
Keenan, who recently relocated to Midcoast Maine from California, is a self-taught watercolor artist who relied on books as her teachers. While learning to paint landscapes she realized that the best time to capture light and color in nature is early morning and late afternoon.
According to Keenan, in a Gallery news release, she was able to explore the changes in light and color because, “being out in nature at that time of day coincided with my daily living, going to school and coming back home. I would make line drawings with lots of notations, including the direction of the light that caught my eyes and the mixing of the pigments to convey the colors I was attracted to in the first place.”
Keenan spent a lot of time observing and painting in Yosemite and the coast of California. The watercolors in this exhibit show her talent for using color to capture peacefulness and beauty found in nature.
