Library announces call for artists
TENANTS HARBOR — Jackson Memorial Library invites full- and part-time residents of Maine who create fine art to apply for exhibition of their works in the library. Preference is given to two-dimensional work that fits the space; and to artists who have not exhibited at the library during the past two years.
The library's mission is to benefit the community through the aesthetic enjoyment, dialogue and insights that may result from viewing art. Solo exhibitions will be displayed in the library's Community Room and adjunct spaces. Joint exhibitions are permitted, but should be coordinated before application and information for all artists must be included in the application.
All artists 18 and older who reside in the State of Maine either full- or part-time are eligible to apply. Preference is given work that qualifies as fine art; is two-dimensional; fits the library space; and weighs less than 20 pounds per piece. The artwork must be suitable for display to a diverse audience, including children, enhance its setting and help create a sense of place. The artwork should not pose a threat to public safety. Artists must be present for delivery and opening reception.
To apply for exhibition, mail or deliver the required items (list follows) to the Jackson Memorial Library Exhibition Coordinator, P.O. Box 231, Tenants Harbor, ME 04860. Applications can be sent via email to art@jacksonmemoriallibrary.org. Those with questions should call 372-8961.
Applications must include a cover letter including a brief overview of what one intends to exhibit and contact information; an artist's statement; brief biography; images of at least five works (either hard copy or CD); a list of three exhibition date preferences, in order; and a $5 nonrefundable application fee in the form of a check made out to the Jackson Memorial Library.
