Jane L. Sprowl, obituary
WARREN — Jane Lilla Sprowl, 84, passed January 16, 2024, in her home peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Jane was born December 6, 1939, in Appleton to Merrill Esancy and Ruth Esancy Pease. She grew up in Appleton where she attended Appleton Village School.
In May of 1955 Jane married her high school sweetheart, Richard Sprowl, and began raising her family. She proudly completed her high school education by obtaining her GED in 1976. Jane and her husband moved to Warren in 1957, becoming longtime residents and raised their family of five children.
Jane enjoyed cooking and being a homemaker while professionally baking special occasion cakes. Later Jane loved meeting ladies as an Avon representative in Warren. She completely enjoyed working in the Medomak Valley High School food service for twenty years.
Jane was a member of the Second Congregational Church of Warren and the Ladies Circle. She was also a member of Order of The Eastern Star, Warren Fireman’s Auxiliary, and the Red Hat Club. Jane loved being part of the Warren community and forged many lifelong friendships along the way. She was a true “butterfly.” She cherished her friendships and was a loyal friend. She had the ability to light up a room with her infectious smile which brought happiness to everyone.
The center of Jane’s life and her greatest joy was her family. Jane was always in attendance to show support for her grandchildren at various basketball games, horse shows, car races and all special occasions. Jane enjoyed making her “famous angel food cake,” which she baked to perfection. She was the “queen of card sending,” never missed a birthday or their special occasions.
Jane and her devoted husband, Richard, spent every summer at their family camp on Sennebec Lake in Appleton. As she neared her final days you would find her and Richard sitting on the deck enjoying the days gone by. Jane loved and was loved. She was a beautiful person inside and out and will be forever remembered.
Jane was predeceased by her daughter Barbara Lynne Dyer, and by her brother Franz Pease.
Jane is survived by her devoted husband of 68 years, Richard Earl Sprowl of Warren; sons Richard Dean Sprowl and his love Nicole LaBranche of Liberty, Larry Sprowl and his wife Jessica of Chesapeake, Virginia, Michael Sprowl and his love Emily of Appleton; daughter Debra Ripley and her husband Daren of Warren; brother Deane Esancy of Green Valley, Arizona; sisters Judy Gaul and her husband Archie of Charlotte, North Carolina, Gloria Esancy of Belfast and Ruth Sukeforth and her husband Douglas of China; grandchildren, Sean Sprowl of Randolph, Eric Sprowl of Gardiner, Matt Dyer of Scarborough, Kyle Pratt of Friendship, Danielle Jandreau of Mt. Vernon, Isaac Sprowl of Limington, Amanda Simko of Hope, Amanda La Belle of North Haven, Hannah Hill of Kill Devils Hill, North Carolina, Ethan Thorndike of Chesapeake, Virginia, Ava Sprowl of Appleton, Sylas Ripley of Warren; along with fifteen great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jane’s granddaughter Danielle and nurse Meredith for the special care Jane received and continued support of her many friends.
Friends are welcome to join the family for a time of visitation on January 23, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main Street, Waldoboro.
A service to celebrate Jane’s life will be held on January 24, at 2 p.m., at The Second Congregational Church of Warren, 252 Main Street, Warren, with reception immediately following.
Burial will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Appleton in the Spring.

Arrangements are entrusted to Hall Funeral Home in Waldoboro.
