HMCM Alvin M. Edwards (ret), obituary
APPLETON — HMCM Alvin M. Edwards (ret), beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully at the Eastern Maine Medical Center on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at the age of 95.
He is survived by his wife, Jean “Fish” Edwards, and their four children: Rose Anne Utley, Lawrence Alvin Edwards, Jeanine Lavonne Milinazzo and Robert Thomas Edwards, as well as nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
He was born in Japan, North Carolina, on November 16, 1928, and enjoyed the great outdoors; hunting and fishing were a favorite past-time when not tending the family farm.
He joined the US Navy after high school. His military career spanned 32 years, while serving in World War II, the Korean Conflict as well as the Vietnam War. He retired as the Command Master Chief of the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. During this time, he provided support and counsel to the Pentagon on temporary assignments.
His career continued in Civilian Service where he rose to the rank of Comptroller for the Naval Medical Research Institute, Bethesda Maryland.
Alvin was married in 1952 to Jean Fish, from Appleton, Maine, and they recently celebrated their 71st anniversary.
The memorial service and reception will be held Friday, December 29, 2023, at 2PM, at the Masonic Lodge in Union.
