Free chimney inspections in July for Belfast homes
BELFAST — Fifty-six years ago today my twin brother Brian and I were born on our maternal Grandma's birthday. Having been Belfast's premier chimney sweep with Maine Chimney for more than 20 years I happen to know that there are approximately 5,000 chimneys in Belfast. What is alarming is that perhaps 500 of these have never been cleaned or inspected.
It is my fondest birthday wish that not one home in Belfast burns due to a chimney fire and to that end I hereby declare July is free chimney inspection month for Belfast for those that haven't been able to afford to have their chimney inspected.
The authorities have been notified.
Worried that Uncle Joe hasn't had his chimney done in 20 years? Give us a call, we'll figure something out. Did Grandma have a chimney fire last year? Let us make sure she's safe. We actually care.
The inspection is free, however, a donation towards the expenses would help, and any real work we bill for, but offer seniors discounts and sliding scales when acceptable.
When our house burned we had our entire family jumping from the second floor windows and an uncle succumbed to a heart attack simply watching our tragedy. The outpouring of love from our community knew no bounds, so this is our ulterior motive, we don't want this to happen to you.
Houses of worship are always done for free as well.
We enjoy climbing steeples.
Give us a call at Maine Chimney, 207-323-7755, and be safe.
Most fire chiefs stopped inspections for liability reasons, although the best still do for ethical reasons. I'll take a good fire chief over a crooked insurance guy any day.
It is these oldest of chimneys that we at Maine Chimney are wanting to inspect and make sure no one is about to burn their house down.
Five years ago, Maine Chimney lost everything we owned due to an electrical fire in July of 2009 and it is this trauma that has us inspired to do free chimney inspections in Belfast every July for my
birthday. That was the huge fire at Kelly Cove in Bayside.
We have just done a mailing to all of the oil dealers because if you have an old oil flue, you need us, too. Oil companies tend to snooze about chimneys.
In conclusion: if your chimney hasn't been inspected in recent memory, please give us a call. Your safety is more important to us than anything else.
