Former Belfast Area High School students elected to Colby-Sawyer College leadership positions
NEW LONDON N.H. - A pair of Belfast Area High School graduates have been elected as prominent members of the Student Government Association at Colby-Sawyer College, where they both attend. Bronsen Stevens, 20, of Belfast, and William Hyland, 20, of Searsmont, will serve as Student Government President and Class of 2019 President, respectively.
Stevens will preside over weekly meetings of the SGA and interact with both students, trustees, and administration in order to assist with school policies and functions. Hyland’s role will be similar, but it will be more specific to his senior class and will include tasks related to commencement and Senior Week planning.
Stevens graduated from Belfast Area High School in 2016 and was involved in Student Senate, the Liberian Education Fund, the National Honor Society, Peer Leadership, and varsity track and field. He also attended the American Legion Dirigo Boys State in June of 2015, held at Thomas College in Waterville.
Since going to Colby-Sawyer, Bronsen has been a consistent member of SGA and has even started a club on campus geared toward the education of constitutional rights and civic engagement.
Hyland is a 2015 graduate of BAHS and was involved as a Class Officer, a member of National Honor Society, a Peer Leader, and as an athlete in baseball and cross country. William is also an Eagle Scout and a George Mitchell Scholar. At Colby-Sawyer, he too has been a consistent member of SGA and holds leadership in several other clubs, as well.
“I am excited and honored to be serving again,” Hyland said, in a news release. “Ever since high school I have had a desire to be involved in leadership, and I am blessed to continue to have this opportunity.”
“As a member of student senate at Belfast Area High School, I realized the impact student voices could have on decisions that impacted them,” said Stevens. “Now being Student Government President at Colby-Sawyer, I am honored to continue my role representing students and addressing their issues.”
Colby-Sawyer is a liberal arts and sciences college in the Lake Sunapee Region of central New Hampshire.
