Exhibit: ‘Recent Works’ by Kerstin Engman
BELFAST - An exhibit of Recent Works by Kerstin Engman will be on display in the Kramer Gallery of the Belfast Free Library through Aug. 31. The Kramer Gallery is located on the ground floor entrance to the library, 106 High Street in Belfast.
In her work, Engman explores the relationship between color and light; design elements such as patterns and repetitions are the basis for applying color in the landscape and still life paintings. Various applications and methods use oil paint to provide avenues to shallow space, texture and pattern that make complex interactions feel simple. The paintings in this exhibit interpret seasonally shifting behaviors in the terrain in and around Waldo County.
Although Engman's artistic focus was as a sculptor for the early part of her career, for more than15 years, she has painted primarily from the Maine landscape as well as, what she defines as, the “simplest of still lifes.” The color interest is an expression of the balances that feels connected to daily observations and events.
