Ethelyn L. (Webb) Day, obituary
VINALHAVEN — Ethelyn L. (Webb) Day passed away peacefully at the Ivan Calderwood Homestead on Vinalhaven on March 19, 2024. Ethelyn was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was also a life-long resident of Vinalhaven who cared deeply for the town and its history.
Ethelyn was pre-deceased by her high school sweetheart and husband of 61 years, Henley C. Day, who died in 2012. Their relationship was an inspiration to anyone who was privileged to see it up close, and her family takes comfort knowing they are together again.
Ethelyn spent many hours with close friend Marion Tolman, her long-time walking partner and co-volunteer at The Wind, and will be remembered as someone who cared for all of the people in her circle. Whether it was an elderly relative or a new baby born to the family, Ethelyn felt a responsibility to care for all of her kin. Her quiet concern and tenderness for her family will be greatly missed.
According to Ethelyn’s wishes, no service will be held, but the family would like to thank the staff at Eldercare and the Island Community Medical Center for the care they provided to Ethelyn, particularly in her final days.
Ethelyn was pre-deceased by her younger son, Douglas G. Day, and leaves behind a large family including sister Barbara (Webb) Robinson; son, Walter A. Day; and Joanne Cheryl Day, Doug’s wife; grandchildren Jason Day, Jada Bottiglieri and her husband Mark, Kenneth Day and his wife Megan, Jessica Day, Avery Day and his wife Sarah; great-grandchildren Alexander Day, Kylie Day, Marina Bottiglieri, Matthew Bottiglieri, Andrew Bottiglieri, Dominic Bottiglieri, James Bottiglieri, Douglas Day, Jackson Day, Kyra Day, Chase Wadleigh, Henry Wadleigh, Barbara Day, and Henley Day; great-great-grandchildren Leroy Wadleigh and Ivan Wadleigh.
