Cultivate: Belfast Area Farm and Arts Trail and Fall Tour receives grant boost for Cultivate weekend in October
BELFAST — The Belfast Creative Coalition received $6000 from the Quimby Foundation to use between August and December 2014 for Cultivate: Belfast Area Farm and Arts Trail and Fall Tour, Oct. 11-12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Cultivate: Belfast Area Farm and Arts Trail and Fall Tour includes 80 studios, farms and cultural organizations and highlights the network of culture, arts and agricultural richness of Waldo County's 26 communities. It is designed for family participation, hands-on experiences and creative arts and foods demonstrations like pottery, forging, cheese, yarn and soap making. The map is available online at BelfastCreativeCoalition.org/Cultivate and is a compelling look at the concentration of creative industry happening in Waldo County.
This year the Cultivate preview party will be held as part of the Belfast Creative Coalition's Annual Fundraiser - Inspire-a-thon, an old-fashioned call-in Telethon televised on Channel 2 and streamed live over the web, September 28, 12:30-4:30, at the Troy Howard Middle Schools Stage.
The Quimby Foundation Grant allows for a coordinator with administrative support to help organize and implement all aspects of the tour, including updating the Cultivate map.
Last October, 400 visitors attended the tour over a rainy Columbus day weekend. This year's goal is to double that number to 800 and by 2018 reach 2000 visitors. Although there were visitors from 19 states and 3 countries last year, motivating local families to discover what is in their own backyards on a year-round basis is a priority for the Belfast Creative Coalition.
