Construction begins soon on Seabright Dam pathway in Camden
Camden-Rockport Pathways Committee Chairman Geoff Scott said construction of the next section of the Riverwalk will be started in the next few weeks, at the Seabright Dam. Trail work will be similar to what was constructed two years ago when the Riverwalk was built alongside Megunticook River at the Tannery property.
The Town of Camden Public Works will begin laying a mulch berm to control runoff, removing vegetation, and installing drainage any time after Oct 19 depending upon weather.
Maine Conservation Corps (MCC) will be arriving Oct 26 and will be working on the project for three weeks, including the weekend of Nov 7 and 8.
The actual construction of the Riverwalk will include backfilling the pathway with gravel for drainage and topping with compacted stonedust. The finished pathway will be flush with grade and, like the Tannery Section, will be ADA compliant and suitable for walking, bikes, and strollers.
There will be an opportunity for volunteers to help with the construction anytime the MCC is there; volunteers are encouraged to check in with them.
MCC workers start early and end at approximately 3:45 p.m., Monday through Friday, and they will be working the weekend of Nov 7-8 so that adults with weekday jobs can also have the chance to help out.
Volunteers will be gathering at 10 a.m. on Nov 7 with Nov 8 as the rain date.
Take work gloves, maybe a shovel, a wheelbarrow or garden cart if you have it, and any other digging or brush-cutting tools.
