Carolyn J. Morton, obituary
THOMASTON — Carolyn Janet Morton transitioned peacefully to heaven from the Sussman House on April 5, 2022.
Born August 19, 1929 on Vinalhaven, Maine, she was the daughter of Henry F. and Susan (Warren) Brown.
Carolyn loved her Lord Jesus Christ. Her family was her life. She was an expert homemaker.
Beautiful gardens of dahlias, sweet peas and glads, among many other flowers brought her much joy. Many bird feeders and houses attracted a myriad of treasured feathered friends. She loved the many dogs, cats, and ducks she raised over her long life.
Spending time with her friends Etta Sennett and Patricia Bunker was very special to her.
Carolyn was an avid reader of novels about nature and biographies.
Dancing at the Memorial Hall was a passion of hers. Her husband Brud Clayter was the guitarist in the orchestra. He would stop playing to join his wife for the last waltz.
Carolyn was predeceased by her parents; both husbands, Brud Clayter and Edwin (Skip) Morton; two daughters: Judith Wahlman and Ruth Clayter Dowse; a son-in-law, Pastor James Morrison; a sister, Betty Wentworth; and a brother, Carroll Brown.
Survivors include her daughters: Dawn Clayter Morrison and Lisa Clayter Winslow; a son-in-law, Rick Winslow; a sister-in-law, Frances Butler; four grandchildren: Carissa Winslow Ellerd and her husband Joshua, Seth Morrison and his wife Alicia, Stephanie Carolyn Morrison and Caleb J. Winslow and his wife Loren; seven great-grandchildren: Avery, Bryce, Evan, Jack, Sadie, Lia and Chloe; nephews: Ross and Robert Brown and David Brown whom she loved like a son; Michael, Sr. and Jr. and Loren Bunker and Rachel Clark; many cousins; and her special friends Peter and Kelly Richards, Kennesaw and Maisie.
Interment will be at Browns Head Cemetery on Vinalhaven later in the summer when the family can gather.
