Billy Collins to give online reading on Poets Corner, Oct. 20
Billy Collins, two term U.S. Poet Laureate, author of thirteen books of poetry, will appear on The Poets Corner on October 20, from 4 - 5:30 p.m.
"He’s known for his conversational, witty, free verse that can make us laugh and tear up at the same time, and open our eyes to a truth about life that we hadn’t thought about before," said Poets Corner, in a news release. "If you’re new to poetry, this is one of the best introductions you can have. If you’re already a fan, you won’t want to miss this opportunity to listen to Collins read and share his insights into the craft of writing poetry."
He’ll be reading from his recent book, Musical Tables, as well as a new collection, Water, Water, to be released from Random House on November 19, 2024.
More about Billy Collins: former U.S. Poet Laureate and NY Times best-selling author of Aimless Love, has published fourteen books of poetry, including soon-to-be-released Water, Water and Musical Tables published in 2022. He has edited three anthologies: Poetry 180: A Turning Back to Poetry, 180 More: Extraordinary Poems for Every Day, and Bright Wings: An Illustrated Anthology of Poems about Birds. His new collection, Water,Water, is scheduled for release on November 19, 2024. Collins' poetry has appeared in anthologies, textbooks, and a variety of periodicals including Poetry, The American Scholar, Harper's, The Paris Review, and The New Yorker.
Awarded the first Mark Twain Prize from the Poetry Foundation for humor in poetry, he also was chosen by the New York Public Library to be a "Library Lion." A graduate of Holy Cross College, he received his doctorate from the University of California at Riverside and is a former Distinguished Professor at Lehman College (CUNY). He served two terms as United States Poet Laureate (2001-2003) and as New York State Poet (2004-2006). He is a member of The American Academy of Arts and Letters.
