Belfast field hockey runs past Oceanside
ROCKLAND – The Oceanside field hockey team hosted Belfast Thursday, Sept. 10 at the high school.
Belfast goes to 3-1 with the win and sits in second place just behind Foxcroft Academy. Oceanside falls to 1-3 as they try to find a rhythm.
Belfast dominated play most of the game with ball control and outstanding passing. That along with the ability of Kylie Nelson to dribble the ball half the length of the field and go one-on-one with the goalie, winning most of the time. Nelson has outstanding stick skills and combine that with her speed makes her a very dangerous player.
Scoring for the Lions today was, Nelson, with a hat trick, all unassisted. Lindsay Burns scored a goal, and Anna Baiungo had an assist.
For Oceanside, Mary Allen scored with :09 seconds on the clock to make it a 4-1 win for the Lions.
Morgan Fernald was in goal for the Lions where she had two saves on three shots. Lauren Hoppe was in goal for Oceanside where she had six saves on 14 shots.
Belfast held the edge in penalty corners 8-1.
The Lions will travel to Nokomis of Newport Tuesday, Sept. 15 for a 4 p.m. game.
Oceanside will travel to Waterville on the same day for a 4 p.m. game as well.
