BELFAST — A Bloomfield, Conn., man was sentenced to eight years in prison with all but four years suspended, in addition to four years of probation for aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs.

Alexander A. Cruz, was arrested in Belfast Sept. 12, 2016, following an investigation by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency (MDEA), according to court documents.

Cruz was found to be in possession of 1,830 individual bags of suspected heroin, nearly 13 grams of suspected cocaine, and over $1,400 cash.

The sentenced was handed down in Waldo County Unified Criminal Court Aug. 29, while three additional charges related to the bust were dismissed as part of a plea deal.

Cruz’s dismissed charges include: two counts of illegal importation of scheduled drugs, unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs.

The $1,409 cash found with Cruz was also forfeited under the terms of his conviction.
