Belfast Municipal Airport hosts second Annual Open House
BELFAST — The Belfast Municipal Airport held its second annual Open House and Fly-in September 17, drawing in dozens of planes and hundreds of spectators.
The warm and sunny fall day served as a backdrop to the many planes, as well as a helicopter offering visitors short rides around the area. The sound of propellers was near-constant, with planes taking off and landing throughout.
Hosted by the Belfast Chapter 1434 of the Experimental Aircraft Association, the event started at 7:30 am, with a pancake breakfast for those interested.
The aircraft featured at the event wasn’t limited to privately owned or hand-crafted.
Life Flight of Maine brought one of their planes and a helicopter to the event, allowing kids and adults alike a chance to see what it’s like on a Life Flight without requiring serious injury first.
The event served not only as a showcase to a wide variety of aircraft, but also as a reminder to the public that there is in fact a functioning airport in the area.
Belfast Municipal Airport is located on Wright Brothers Drive.
