Belfast man gets three years in prison for burglary
BELFAST — A Belfast man was sentenced to three years in prison with all but 90 days suspended in Waldo County’s Unified Criminal Court Aug. 8.
Derek D. Maxcy, 35, had been accused of burglarizing a private Belfast residence April 12, 2015, during which he stole the homeowner’s purse.
Maxcy was arrested Nov. 12, 2015, charged with burglary and theft by unauthorized taking or transfer.
In addition to serving 90 days in prison, Maxcy was sentenced to two years of probation and must pay $400 restitution as a result of his burglary conviction.
Maxcy was also sentenced to 90 days in jail for theft by unauthorized taking or transfer.
Maxcy will be prohibited from possessing drugs or alcohol during his probation, in addition to being required to participate in counseling and treatment for substance abuse, according to court documents. He is also prohibited from contacting the victim.
