Anah Shriners Parade brings crowds to Belfast’s streets
BELFAST — The streets of downtown Belfast were lined with cars and people waiting to for the Anah Shrine Ceremonial Parade to come into view.
Anah Shriners is based in Bangor, with a motto of “having fun and doing good deeds that will change the life of a child,” the June 18 parade was filled with fun.
The organization held its first meeting in July 1921, with a charter being issued in 1922. The Anah Shrine has eight regional shrine clubs, according to the Anah Shriners website.
Shriners International is described as “a fraternity based on fun, fellowship and the Masonic principles of brotherly love, relief and truth.”
The organization is dedicated to raising funds for their philanthropic endeavors, including raising money for various Shriners Hospitals for Children, with locations throughout the United States, in addition to locations in Mexico and Montreal.
With a clear focus on children, Saturday’s parade did not disappoint. From clowns handing out their very own baseball-style cards to small and eager hands, to a wide variety of miniature vehicles, the parade had something for everyone.
