‘Hometown Proud — Hometown Talent’ It’s a theme
THOMASTON — The Thomaston 4th of July committee announced this year's theme for the parade: Hometown Proud — Hometown Talent.
All local talent is encouraged to participate in the parade. The Midcoast is full of sports teams, musicians, military servicemen and women, artists, dancers, performers just to name a few of the talented folks of which we can be proud. All are invited to come as groups or as individuals to participate in the parade. "Show your pride and talent!" is this year's rallying call for Thomaston's annual 4th of July parade.
The committee had over fifty submissions for the theme contest this year. The ideas were creative and well thought out ranging from historical themes, summer fun, pride in our animals and nautical subjects. This made it a challenge for the committee to just pick the one winner. The committee expressed thanks to all the entry participants for their wonderfully thought out submissions.
Congratulations to Margaret Kiley for submitting the winning theme. She will be awarded the $100 prize.
The committee encourages all floats, bike entries, walkers, cars, baby strollers, lawn mowers, four wheelers, clowns and even tractors to incorporate this theme into their decorations.
The 2016 festivities will kick off on Friday, July 1, with the musical "The Music Man" performed at Watts Hall at 7 p.m. Auditions for the show will be held on April 24 and 26. Those wishing to help on the play may email Daryl (darylhahn@gmail.com) with any questions.
