Watts Hall Community Players brings back 'The Music Man'
THOMASTON — The famous musical story of River City and its inhabitants hasn't been on the Watts Hall stage for 25 years so Watts Hall Community Players thinks it's time for an anniversary production. This year Thomaston's The Music Man will be performed on July 2, 3, 8 and 9 with Sean Fleming as Music Director and Daryl Hahn as Stage Director. 25 years ago a very young Sean was a member of the barbershop-singing quartet and Daryl played the gossipy Eulalie Mackecknie Shinn.
Auditions for the show will be April 24 and 26.
The Music Man is a family friendly show with parts for youngsters, tween's, teens, young adults, adults, older adults, and older older adults. "We are especially hoping that families with children will participate," Hahn says in a news release. "Being a part of live theater is such exhilarating experience and a wonderful way for families to have fun together."
Auditions will take place in Watts Hall on Main Street in Thomaston Sunday, April 24, at 3 p.m. and Tuesday, April 26 at 6 p.m. Never gotten over that stage fright when singing alone? No problem, assures the director. Only those who are interested in major roles will be asked to sing a solo though you might be asked to sing as part of a group. Those wishing lead parts should come prepared to sing a song from the show and everyone hoping for a speaking part will be asked to read from the script.
There will be multiple ways to get involved in putting on this production. Those wishing to help behind the scenes may come to auditions or email the director at darylhahn@gmail.com.
Rehearsals will begin on Sunday, May 1 and will continue through May and June. Generally, late Sunday afternoon and Tuesday and Thursday evenings will be devoted to rehearsing. Realizing daily life is hectic, accommodations will be made as much as possible for scheduling.
Spread the word! And feel free to email Daryl (darylhahn@gmail.com) with any questions.
