$25,000 Matching grant to support Montessori's journey home

BELFAST — Journey Home, The Campaign for Cornerspring Montessori School, has announced a $25,000 matching grant, according to campaign co-chairs Sarah Tomalty and Eric Kormann. Cornerspring is raising funds to build the first Passive House Montessori school in Maine. The Griswold Family Foundation will match up to $25,000 in gifts to Journey Home. The deadline to meet the match is June 9, 2016. The dollar-for-dollar match applies to contributions, new pledges, and increased pledges received through June 9. Existing pledge payments are not eligible for the match.
"Their dollar-for-dollar match will double our donors' contributions, and that's very exciting," said Eric Kormann of Thorndike in a news release.
According to Foundation Trustee Matt Griswold, "We voted unanimously to support Cornerspring Montessori School because it provides an important alternative educational opportunity to children in the Belfast area."
The capital campaign has raised $400,142 in contributions, pledges, and in-kind gifts from individuals, local businesses and foundations. Since 2001, more than 600 children have experienced Cornerspring Montessori programs. Families recognize Cornerspring Montessori as a high-quality alternative and an educational asset in the region.
"We are deeply grateful to the Griswold Family Foundation for this match, which will result in a $50,000 boost for the campaign," said Sarah Tomalty of Brooks.
The new Cornerspring Montessori School was designed by GO Logic, a Belfast architecture and construction firm. It will be the first Montessori school in Maine to target Passive House certification.
