Hard-cover and soft-cover trade paperbacks will be offered at $2 each, on topics ranging from the arts to travel, and will include biographies, cooking, fiction, foreign language, gardening, health, history, government, how-to, Maine, marine, nature, religion, science, and sports.
There will also be a large section of children's books priced at a $1 each, young adult books at $2 each, hundreds of paperbacks at 50 cents each, covering a variety of topics, as well as fiction by leading novelists. Also, on sale will be DVDs and CDs at $2 each and VHS tapes at 50 cents each or three for a dollar. There will be movies, cartoons for children, films on topics for young adults, how-to topics, and a wide variety of musical CDs and books on tapes.
Volunteers are needed at the library on Friday afternoon, March 4, to set out the books on tables in the Picker Room beginning at 1 p.m. Freedman-White added, "We need people to serve for three-hour shifts as cashiers and to refresh the tables of books during the sale. Volunteers are also needed to help pack up books at the end of the sale, on Monday, March 7, at 9 a.m.
"We are still accepting donations of books for this sale," Freedman-White noted. "If you are donating one or two bags of books you may drop them off at the library. If you have more than two boxes or large bags of books to donate, please call me at 236-4885. We will call you to schedule a convenient time for you to bring in your donation to our storage shed. We do not accept musty or moldy or damaged items, encyclopedias, Readers Digest condensed books, magazines or other periodicals, vinyl records, most textbooks (call first to see if the topics of the textbooks you want to donate are subjects we feel our buyers will purchase), medical, health, or technical books more than 5 years old," she explained.
For information about volunteering for any phase of the book sale or for information on donating books for the sale, please call Freedman-White at 236-4885 or call the Library at 236-3440. All of the funds raised by the book sale will be used to purchase new books and for children's and adult programs.
