VoXX: Voice of Twenty celebrates 15 years of singing
VoXX: Voice of Twenty invites the community to join in a celebration of 15 years of singing together, first as Ave Maris Stella and now as VoXX: Voice of Twenty.
The group will open its summer series Friday, June 19, at Belfast’s First Church UCC, 104 Church St.; and Saturday, June 20, at Union Hall, 2 Central St., in Rockport. Both concerts begin 7:30 p.m. Admission is $10, at the door.
Ave Maris Stella started out around the turn of this century as a group of singers who gathered in living rooms to challenge themselves with early, a cappella music. In this concert series, the singers will share some of the pieces they have sung and loved for many years, along with others that are brand-new to them and one world premiere, composed by member John Mehrmann.
Membership in the all-volunteer group is by audition; visit voiceoftwenty.com for more information and an application form.
The group performs two concert sets annually, in mid-January and June/July; and is available at other times by arrangement. The summer series will continue in July with concerts Friday, July 10, at 7:30 p.m. at Rockville Chapel (a benefit for the Rockville Steeple Restoration Fund); and Sunday, July 12, at 2 p.m. at the Old South Cushing Church.
