First Annual Ukulele Picnic brings smiles and song
BELFAST — Revelers young and old gathered at Steamboat Landing Saturday in Belfast for the first annual Ukulele Picnic.
The event kicked off at noon and included performances by The MidCoast Maine Ukes, the Unleashed Remedy from Blue Hill, the Ukulele Club of Machias, the Peaks Island Ukers, the Merry Plinksters of Farmington and the Flukes from Falmouth.
There were also workshops offered to would-be ukulele enthusiasts and performances of traditional Hawaiian and Tahitian dances.
In a day filled with sunshine, music and smiles, the jubilance of a long awaited summer was palpable.
“The perks of living in Midcoast,” one man said smiling.
The sentiment, much like the cheerful melodies, hung in the air long after the last note faded.
