Maine State Police Troop D beat: Pot, pipes, traffic violations
AUGUSTA — Maine State Police Troop D reported the following activity Feb. 2-9. Troop D is responsible for Maine’s Midcoast, including Sagadahoc, Lincoln, Waldo, Knox counties, the southern half of Kennebec County and part of northern Cumberland County. The troop also patrols Interstate 295 from Brunswick to Gardiner. The troop's complement includes a lieutenant, three sergeants, 25 troopers and a secretary. An arrest or summons does not imply guilt.
Feb. 2
Trooper Jeremiah Wesbrock stopped a vehicle for having expired registration. Shara Macdonald, 51, was charged with operating an unregistered motor vehicle greater (150+ days).
Trooper Wesbrock solved a theft case from Dec. 2013. Bruce Tillson, 36, was charged with felony theft for stealing around $100 in change from his previous employer in the town of Washington.
Feb. 3
Trooper Seth Allen responded to the report of a burglary at Dunkin’ Donuts on Maine Avenue in Farmingdale. Forced entry was made and a safe was broken open. Investigation continues.
Trooper Corey Smith stopped a vehicle on Main Street in Unity for a stop sign violation and determined the operator, Trisha McPherson, 44, of Unity, held a suspended license. She was issued a summons for operating after suspension.
Trooper Erin Ball responded to a call of bad checks being written at Seaman Christmas Tree Farm. Brian True, 41, had written a check in Dec. 2013 for three Christmas trees. Trooper Ball issued True a five day notice to repay the fine and issued him a summons for negotiating a worthless instrument. True repaid the fine on Feb. 7.
Trooper Niles Krech and Sergeant Jeffrey Mills went to River Road in Chelsea to return Brian Wilson’s (50) guns that were seized from a prior incident. While there, Trooper Krech spoke with Wilson about his bail conditions. During a search of his residence, multiple pieces of drug paraphernalia were located. Wilson was issued summonses for violating conditions of release and sale and use of drug paraphernalia.
Trooper Krech stopped a vehicle in Topsham for a seatbelt violation. It was discovered the driver, Adam Pottle, 22, had a warrant. Passenger Cole Lloyd, 21, ultimately admitted that he had a marijuana pipe on him along with hashish oil. Lloyd was issued summonses for unlawful possession of a schedule X drugs and sale and use of drug paraphernalia. Pottle was arrested and transported to Two Bridges Jail without incident.
Trooper Benajamin Sweeney initiated a traffic stop for speed on Knox Ridge Road in Thorndike. Further investigation revealed the driver, Joshua Treat, 24, of Lincolnville, had marijuana and paraphernalia. Treat was issued summonses for possession of marijuana and sale and use of drug paraphernalia. He was also issued a traffic infraction for speeding.
Feb. 4
Trooper Thomas Bureau stopped Erik Pippin, 20, for a seatbelt violation on Route 126 in Litchfield. Pippen ultimately surrendered a usable amount of marijuana and a marijuana pipe. Pippin was issued summonses for sale and use of drug paraphernalia and possession of a useable amount of marijuana. He was warned for the seatbelt violation. Trooper Eric Verhille and K9 Clint assisted.
Trooper Thomas Bureau stopped Joshua Blanchard, 27, on Route 139 in Unity for a loud exhaust and an improperly displayed front license plate. Investigation revealed Blanchard was in possession of a pipe used to smoke marijuana. Blanchard was issued a summons for sale and use of drug paraphernalia. Trooper Verhille, K-9 Clint and Sergeant Field assisted.
Trooper Bureau conducted a traffic stop on Amy Noyes, 34, on Route 139 in Unity for an expired inspection sticker. Following investigation, passenger Shane Parks, 30, surrendered a usable amount of marijuana and a pipe to smoke marijuana. Parks was summonsed for both offenses and Noyes was issued a ticket for the expired inspection sticker. Trooper Verhille assisted.
Trooper Sweeney initiated a traffic stop in Unity on a suspected suspended driver.
Feb. 5
Trooper Sweeney initiated a traffic stop on Main Street in Unity for a suspected suspended driver. Joshua Mitchell, 27, of Unity, was not suspended but had bought the vehicle and not changed the registration plates from the previous owner. Mitchell was charged with failure to register a motor vehicle and released from the scene.
Trooper Krech conducted a traffic stop on Cristina Chaput, 32, of Belgrade, for not having an inspection sticker. Trooper Krech discovered that Chaput’s vehicle’s registration expired over a year ago. Chaput was given a ticket for not having an inspection sticker and issued a summons for failing to register her vehicle for over 150 days.
Trooper Smith charged Robin “RJ” Muir, 22, of Lincolnville, with criminal mischief, resulting from an investigation originating Jan. 31. Muir was reported to have damaged a vehicle in Lincolnville Center.
Feb. 6
Trooper Kyle Pelletier and Trooper Mark Ferreira responded to a domestic disturbance on Bowman Street in Farmingdale. Donna Grover, 48, was ultimately arrested for domestic violence assault and transported to Kennebec County Jail.
Trooper Pelletier and Trooper Ferreira responded to a domestic disturbance on Louden Street in Farmingdale. The complainant and her son had a verbal argument that was ended when the son left the residence.
Trooper Smith charged Michael Embry, 44, of Unity, for operating after suspension after he was found to be driving on Stagecoach Road in Unity.
Feb. 7
Trooper Pelletier stopped Scott Babineau, 25 on Route 126 in West Gardiner for not having a front registration tag affixed on his vehicle. Further investigation revealed that he falsely attached the rear registration tag. Babineau was issued a summons for attaching false plates.
Trooper Pelletier stopped Brian Costa, 54, on Route 126 in West Gardiner for operating a defective motor vehicle (loud exhaust). Costa’s license was under suspension and he was issued a summons for operating after suspension.
Sergeant Patrick Hood stopped Gregory Thornton, 36, of Whitefield, on Route 17 in Windsor for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed Thornton was operating with an expired license over 90 days. He was issued a summons for that violation and released to a licensed driver.
Sergeant Hood stopped Jennifer Rheiner, 38, of Augusta, on Route 17 in Chelsea for a traffic violation. Further investigation revealed the vehicle was uninspected and the registration had expired in May, 2013. Rheiner was issued a summons for operating with an expired registration over 150 days.
Sergeant Hood stopped George Ganson, 30, of Round Pond, on Route 220 in Washington for an expired inspection sticker. Further investigation revealed the registration plate attached to his truck was expired and registered to another vehicle. Ganson was issued a summons for illegal attachment of registration plates.
Trooper Bureau stopped a vehicle for a headlight out on Route 126 in Monmouth. Further investigation revealed passenger Oliver Hyer, 35, was in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Hyer was issued summonses for both offenses.
Feb. 8
Trooper Bureau stopped Svea V. Tullberg, 35, on Route 17 in Windsor for displaying an expired registration plate. Trooper Bureau issued Tullberg a summons for failure to register a motor vehicle with registration expired for over 150 days.
Trooper Ferreira stopped Matthew Pelletier, 26, of Randolph, in Gardiner for displaying expired registration on his vehicle. Pelletier was issued a summons for operating an unregistered motor vehicle with registration expired greater than 150 days.
Trooper Allen stopped Christopher McNickles, 43, on Maine Avenue in Farmingdale for a vehicle defect. McNickles was ultimately issued a summons for false attachment of plates. The vehicle was parked in a parking lot and the plates were taken off the vehicle.
Feb. 9
Troopers Bethany Robinson, Evan Teel, and Thomas Bureau responded to a vehicle roll over on Quaker Hill Road in Unity. Operator Hilary Emma, 32, of Unity, performed poorly on standardized field sobriety tests. Emma was arrested for operating under the influence and issued summonses for driving to endanger, and failing to notify of a property damage accident by quickest means.
Trooper Ball stopped William Kinch, 56, for speeding on Route 9. Kinch was issued a warning for speed and a summons for failure to provide proof of insurance. Kinch was also issued a summons for operating with an expired license greater than 90 days. Kinch’s passenger, Terri Hanscom, 51, was also issued a warning for not wearing a seatbelt.
Trooper Sweeney observed a pick-up truck pass by his position on Route 7 in Jackson and he recognized the passenger as Marshall Lowe, 50, of Jackson. Trooper Sweeney knew that Lowe had an active warrant for his arrest. Trooper Sweeney made contact with Lowe on Route 139 in Brooks and placed him under arrest. During the arrest it was discovered that Lowe had drug paraphernalia and he was summonsed for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Trooper Sweeney initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle at the intersection of Route 139 and Route 7 in Brooks for failing to stop at the stop sign. Amy Rae Parsons, 28, of Bangor, was driving with a suspended license. Parsons was issued a summons for operating after suspension and the vehicle was towed.
