BELFAST — Former Troy Town Treasurer/Clerk Kathleen Mattingly, 56, who was arrested in June for allegedly stealing approximately $20,000 from the town of Troy, pleaded guilty to theft Dec. 3 in Waldo County Superior Court, according to Deputy District Attorney Eric Walker. 

According to Walker, Mattingly’s sentencing has been continued for “roughly a month, though the plea agreement calls for her to be sentenced to three years in [prison] with all but 90 days suspended and one year of probation.”

Walker also noted that given Mattingly’s health problems, she hopes to meet with department of corrections officials before sentencing to ensure they can accommodate her needs. 

Mattingly served as the town treasurer for 14 months before resigning March 29. Discrepancies were later discovered between amounts paid to the town and those deposited to the bank. Mattingly allegedly wrote herself a number of $2,500 checks in the six weeks before her resignation.
