MIDCOAST - High winds and downed trees accounted for pockets of power outages in Knox and Waldo Counties, Nov 24.

The National Weather Service has also issued a gale warning for Penobscot Bay along with much of the coast of Maine.

As of 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Central Maine Power reported 26,934 customers without service in the utility’s 14-county coverage area.

In Knox County, CMP reported 188 customers without power at 1:30 p.m. An hour later, that number had dropped to 103, despite an increase in statewide outages during the same time. 

In Waldo County, power outages appeared to peak around 2 p.m. at roughly 600 customers, or about 2.5 percent. By 2:30 p.m. that number had dropped to 74, according to CMP.

Waldo County Regional Communications Center received reports of trees fallen on power lines in Winterport and Swanville.

Customers on Main Street in Rockport reportedly lost power.

Within CMP’s territory, Penobscot and Sagadahoc Counties were hit hardest with 6,090 and 5,146 customer power outages respectively as of 2:30 p.m. In Somerset County there were 4,720 reported power outages. Lincoln and Franklin Counties had 3,811 and 3,031 respectively.

As of 7:30 p.m. power had been restored to all but one customer in Knox County. In Waldo County the number of outages had increased to 93. The total number of CMP customers without power was 14,640.

The National Weather Service’s gale warning for waters on the coast of Maine, including Penobscot Bay, remains effect through 7 a.m. Monday morning.
