Penobscot Bay Singers celebrate 50 years with Golden Hour Sunset Concerts
The Penobscot Bay Singers are celebrating 50 years of exceptional choral music with two Golden Hour Sunset Concerts overlooking Belfast Harbor on June 8 and 9. Another concert will be held June 19, in Rockport.
The Penobscot Bay Singers have much to be thankful for this year, according to the group. In February, they welcomed Kim Murphy as their new musical director.
“When rehearsals started soon after, our numbers doubled, as many new experienced and enthusiastic singers joined our group,” said the Singers. “joani mitchell continues as our accomplished accompanist, and versatile violinist Carolyn Ramm will join the chorus on several pieces.”
The Golden Hour Sunset program is entitled “Togetherness in Hope Through Song.”
“It includes a variety of classical and more contemporary music that is relevant, timely, and sure to please our faithful fans as well as new friends,” said the release. “Highlights of the program include classical favorites such as Mozart’s Ave Verum Corpus, Durufle’s Ubi Caritas, and Faure’s haunting Cantique de Jean Racine. Some fun sea shanties lighten the mood before it turns thoughtful again, as we present Hagenberg’s Deep Peace, and Pederson’s Can We Sing the Darkness to Light?
“The concert will end with a version of “Amazing Grace” that features a seriously fun jazzy piano accompaniment,” said the Singers.
Penobscot Bay Singers will be performing at the Belfast Harbor Boathouse, which has been a favorite venue over the years. During the concert, guests will be seated at tables cabaret style where they will enjoy catered sweets and treats prepared by a local pastry chef.
