Amythyst Kiah brings Americana sounds to Strand stage, May 1
ROCKLAND — Award-winning Roots singer-songwriter Amythyst Kiah will appear Wednesday, May 1, at 7:30 p.m., at the Strand Theatre.
A 2019 Grammy Award nominee for Best American Roots Song and winner of Song of the Year at the 2019 Folk Alliance International Awards, Kiah blends old-time folk, blues, and country with more contemporary strains of R&B and gritty alt-rock.
“Kiah’s 2021 album release Wary + Strange marked the glorious collision of two vastly different worlds: the iconoclastic alt-rock that first sparked her musical passion, and the roots/old-time-music scene where she’s found breakout success in recent years,” said the Strand, in a news release.
Along with tapping into the vibrant musicality she honed in part through her studies in East Tennessee State University’s Bluegrass, Old Time, Country Music program, the Chattanooga-bred singer/songwriter expands on the uncompromising artistry she’s displayed as a member of Our Native Daughters—an all-women-of-color supergroup.
Tickets are $25/Advance, $28/Day of Show, and are available at RocklandStrand.com, by calling (207) 594-0070, or at the walk-up box office when the theater is open for shows. Beer and wine will be available at concessions.
The Strand Theatre is located at 345 Main Street, Rockland.
