BELFAST — Local Color Gallery will be hosting guest artist Karen Olson, local musical group The Outhouse Association, and four winter workshops led by Olson.

Guest Artist and Reception February 23

Local Color Gallery’s next Guest Artist will be Karen Olson, a photographer and paper artist, whose unique prints and paper sculptures have been popular additions to the Gallery in the past, according to Local Color, in a news release. Olson’s work will be displayed beginning Wednesday, February 21, and there will be an opening reception on Friday, February 23, from 4 - 7 p.m. Olson will give a short Artist Talk at 5 p.m.

Music February 23

The Gallery will feature music provided by The Outhouse Association, an acoustic duo from Eagle Island, in East Penobscot Bay. Ian Ludders (banjo, fiddle, guitar, vocals) and Tony Scott (mandolin, mountain dulcimer, guitar, vocals) play traditional and modern songs on eternal themes: love, labor, and the weather. Drawing inspiration from folk troubadours like Woody Guthrie and Gordon Bok, Ludders and Scott have assembled a repertoire that mixes old and new, borrowed and original, familiar and obscure. As musicians with day jobs, they are drawn to songs about work, and they have a special soft spot for songs about working on the water written by people who have done that work in Maine and beyond.

In addition to her exhibit and artist talk, Karen Olson will teach four upcoming workshops at the Gallery: Photography: Sunday, February 25, 1–3 pm, $50; Printing on Fine Art Paper: Monday, February 26, 1–3 pm, $50; Papermaking: Sunday, March 3, 1–3 pm, $65 (includes materials) Paper Sculpture: Monday, March 4, 1–3 pm, $65 (includes materials).
