BELFAST — Waldo County EMA with the YMCA, the Belfast Soup Kitchen and local Public Health has activated an Overnight Emergency Shelter at the YMCA, at 157 Lincolnville Avenue, in Belfast. The Shelter will open Wednesday, December 20, 2023, starting at 6 p.m., through Friday, December 22, 2023 at noon.

Anyone who needs a warm place to sleep during the power outage may use the shelter.

The shelter will have a sleeping area with cots and blankets. Meals will also be provided.

Items to bring to the shelter include:

Backpack or suitcase

Your favorite pillow (we will have some on hand)

Personal hygiene supplies

Cell phone with portable charger

Personal portable medical devices/equipment with chargers

Foods that meet dietary requirements/restrictions

Prescriptions/emergency medications

Personal identification

Extra clothing

Additional pair of prescription glasses

Infant supplies, if needed

Small toys and stuffed animals if needed

Small books, games, etc.

*The shelter is unable to take pets as there is no facility for them
