RESCHEDULED: Night at the Museum brings spooky fun to transportation history
OWLS HEAD — The event, Night at the Museum:Living History has been rescheduled for Saturday, November 4, from 5 to 7 p.m.
On Saturday, Oct. 28, Nov. 4, from 5 -7 p.m., the exhibition halls at the Owls Head Transportation Museum will be host to a wide array of historic “ghosts” and activities fit for any young mad scientist. This brand new, family friendly event is free to all, and will deliver a night of learning, exploration and some haunted fun – just in time for Halloween.
Night at the Museum: Living History will feature reenactors emulating some of transportation’s greatest pioneers! From the Wright brothers to Bertha Benz, children will delight in the stories these colorful, costumed characters share about their lives, and how their ingenious innovations shaped the way we move throughout the world today.
Not your average ghouls! As you tour the mysterious galleries of the museum, be on the lookout for two of transportation’s great female pioneers: Bertha Benz and Alice Ramsey. Bertha Benz was the first person to take a long-distance automotive road trip, traveling from across Germany with her two sons Richard and Eugene in tow! Alice Huyler Ramsey was the first woman to drive an automobile across the United States from coast to coast, a feat she completed on August 7, 1909.
Boo brothers! Young visitors to the event should keep an eye out for two sets of brothers with very different backgrounds: the Wright brothers are famous for their contributions to aviation, while the Dodge brothers helped revolutionize the modern automobile. Roaming the ghostly halls of the museum will be a bevy of other historic specters who span significant time periods of transportation history, and flappers, early cyclists and WWI soldiers and making appearances for the one-night event.
Calling All Spooky Scientists A fun-loving and slightly silly Mad Scientist will be leading experiments throughout the evening from her spooky STEM laboratory, leading young learners in activities which highlight science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Is there a young witch in your family? They might enjoy the broom flying station, where participants design their very own “broomstick” and launch it to see how far it can travel through air! Robotics wizards will enjoy the robot races, where Halloween-themed robots will be raced against an army of mummies!
Costumes encouraged! Who will you dress up for the Night at the Museum? We can’t wait to see the creative costumes you and your family dream up! If you’re saving your Halloween look for the big night on the 31st, just come as you are! There will be festive treats and treasures for all of our guests!
