CANCELLED: Burns brings NYC jazz to Camden Opera House, Oct. 20
This concert has been cancelled due to illness.
CAMDEN — Camden Opera House’s SoundCheck series of hour-long performances caps its year Friday night, Oct. 20, with jazz singer Vicki Burns. The New York City-based Burns and Midcoast jazz guitarist David Clarke will perform at 7:30 p.m. at the downtown opera house, 29 Elm St.
Burns, who grew up in Maine, said she is looking forward to performing in her father’s hometown – for the second time this year, having been part of Jazz in June, according to COH, in a news release. She studied music at the University of New Hampshire, with graduate studies in improvisation at San Jose State. After establishing herself in the San Francisco jazz scene, she returned to the East Coast and the opportunities to play with world-class musicians New York City offers.
“Her three-octave range, sure sense of rhythm and perfect intonation have her singing at top Big Apple venues including Birdland, Mezzrow and The Stayton Room of the Lexington Hotel, where she has a monthly residency,” said COH.
Belfast guitarist Clarke was performing gigs by age 13. After a four-year stint with the Air Force Band, he returned to Maine to open a music store. In addition to teaching music, Clarke has played in a prodigious number of Maine outfits including years in The Nite Show Band.
Choose-your-own reserved seat tickets are $10 via camdenoperahouse.com and 236-3154. Doors will open at 7 p.m.
SoundCheck shows also are livestreamed on the opera house’s Facebook page at no charge, thanks to donations to the Community Arts Fund.
