Single vehicle crash in Camden sends one to hospital
CAMDEN — An April 17 crash on Route 1 in Camden under rainy and foggy conditions sent one man to the hospital with a severe lower leg injury and a broken wrist.
Camden Fire and EMS responded, along with North East Mobile Health Services, after a southbound Ford sedan veered into the opposite lane just after the entrance to Camden Hills State Park. The car went off the road, over an embankment and into a ditch on the opposite side of the highway.
The driver, a man in his 20s, was apparently returning home from a medical treatment in Belfast, when the accident occurred, said Camden Fire Chief Chris Farley, who happened to be on the same stretch of road, and was first at the scene to assist.
Camden firefighters and EMS personnel responded with extrication equipment, removing doors from the vehicle to help remove the conscious driver from the car.
He was placed on a longboard and carried up from the ditch to the waiting ambulance, and transported to Pen Bay Medical Center, in Rockport.
