Donald E. Vogel Sr., obituary
WASHINGTON — Donald E. Vogel Sr. passed away at his home in Washington, Maine on May 26, 2022, at the age of 88 years. Born December 9, 1933 to Edward and Louise Vogel and the eldest of three brothers, he grew up in Westport, Conn. and raised his family in Fairfield before retiring to Maine. He was graduated from Fairfield College-Preparatory School in 1951 and attended Villanova University.
Father of four and grandfather of two, Don was predeceased by his beloved wife of 64 years, Dorothy Vogel, and by brother Fred Vogel of Redding, Connecticut.
A life-long residential and commercial electrical contractor, Don was a proprietor of family-owned Vogel Electric Service, serving Westport, Connecticut and environs for many decades.
Don enjoyed playing golf, league bowling, and fishing the waters of Long Island Sound and off coastal Connecticut and Massachusetts with his friends and family. He was as an avid reader and crossword-puzzle enthusiast and a man of keen intellect whose interests included history and mathematics. Don was also a fan of college sports, particularly basketball, and delighted in watching the Huskeys win on the court.
Don is survived by his four children: sons Donald Vogel Jr. of Washington, Maine and David Vogel of Trumbull, Connecticut; daughters Lynn Vogel of Trumbull, Connecticut and Suzanne Carey of Washington, Maine, brother Clinton of Newtown, Connecticut, and grandchildren Audrey Vogel of Monroe, Connecticut and Shaun Carey of Bridgeport, Connecticut.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 10, at 10 a.m., at the Marr Cemetery, 395-419 Razorville Road, in Washington, Maine.
