Road trips, other programs offered through Five Towns Adult Ed this summer
Five Town CSD Adult and Community Education continues in the summer.
This year the department is offering three new one-day trips in a series called Art Trail Maine. Each Thursday trip affords approximately 3 hours to explore and create in a visually interesting location, followed by a relaxed lunch and an afternoon gallery visit. The trip leader, Deb Vendetti, has visited these locations annually for over 30 years and they are among her most artistically inspirational spots.
The first trip is on June 9 to Boothbay Harbor where the morning will be spent taking in the many beautiful scenes around the harbor. Lunch will be at Taka on the Water, followed by a visit to Gleason Fine Art where the rich art history of coastal Maine has long been celebrated.
July 21 features a trip to Northeast Harbor featuring visits to Asticou and Thuya Gardens. The lunch stop will be at the Asticou Inn, followed by a visit to the innovative and extraordinary Sammy Shaw’s Contemporary Jewelry.
The final Art Trail Maine trip for 2022 will be to Bangor on September 29. Here participants will experience the artistic vibe of a lively city, have lunch at one of the many downtown eateries, then visit the Zillman Art Museum of the University of Maine, one of the finest Modern and Contemporary galleries in the state.
Art Trail Maine trip leader Deb Vendetti holds a BFA in Painting from UMass Dartmouth and has been involved in the local arts community since 1981, including as the Education Coordinator at the Farnsworth Art Museum for 11 years.
Transportation is not included and due to limited parking in some areas, carpooling is encouraged. Lunch cost is not included, and all participants can choose to bring a brown bag lunch instead. Art materials are the choice of each student and could include painting, drawing or digital photography. Students are encouraged to bring a folding chair and personal bottled water.
In addition to Art Trail Maine, adult ed is holding a few classes in July and August at Camden Hills Regional High School, 25 Keelson Dr., Rockport. These include Spanish; Learn to Meditate; iPhone Photography; Writer’s Workshop; Making Movies with your iPhone; Learn to Play Native American Flute; Calendula Salve and Lip Balm from Fresh Flowers; and iPhoneography - Advanced Mobile Photography.
