Watts Hall, Thomaston’s community hall, has space to rent
Watts Hall on Main Street has been a community focal point for more than 100 years. Thanks to a newly formed nonprofit-in-progress, the venerable building’s auditorium and related spaces are abuzz with activity.
Watts Hall Community Arts was chartered by the town to take charge of the building’s second floor. This includes a beloved auditorium with stage and green room; the former selectboard meeting room, now called the Gallery; a kitchen with appliances and sink; and handicapped accessible restrooms, as well as an ADA-compliant elevator. The WHCA board includes community members from all walks of life interested in ensuring this historic space has a lively future.
All the second-floor spaces are available for rental. Current use includes a local homeschoolers group, Thomaston Garden Club, Down East Singers, General Henry Knox Museum and a number of private rentals for such things as music rehearsals. Time is currently reserved for at least one summer wedding and an art exhibit. And the Watts Hall Community Players will be presenting two weekends of an original summer musical, Count Me In.
“We want this beautiful space to be used and appreciated,” said board member Charlie Grover. “And we hope to produce public events such as an upcoming concert by Denny Breau.”
Earlier this spring, WHCA debuted a new website that offers details on the available spaces and amenities. The website, wattshallthomaston.com, also has a calendar of events that is regularly updated.
