Waldo Theatre moves ‘Our Town’ to June; hosts auditions April 10, 11
WALDOBORO — The Waldo Theatre (916 Main St) is shifting its scheduled dates of the play “Our Town” to June and holding more auditions for that show along with open auditions for a September production of Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap on Sunday, April 10, from 1 - 4 p.m., and Monday, April 11, from 4 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
“Our Town” presents the joy and drama of everyday life in the mythical town of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire. Narrated by a stage manager and performed with minimal props and sets, the play depicts the simple daily lives of the Webb and Gibbs families as their children grow up and experience falling in love.
Show dates are Thursdays - Saturdays, June 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, and 25; all evening performances.
In “The Mousetrap,” after a local woman is murdered, the guests and staff at Monkswell Manor find themselves stranded during a snowstorm. It soon becomes clear that the killer is among them, and the seven strangers grow increasingly suspicious of one another. A police detective, arriving on skis, interrogates the suspects: the newlyweds running the house; a spinster with a curious background; an architect who seems better equipped to be a chef; a retired Army major; a strange little man who claims his car has overturned in a drift; and a jurist who makes life miserable for everyone. When a second murder takes place, tensions and fears escalate.
“This record-breaking murder mystery features a brilliant surprise finish from Dame Agatha Christie, the foremost mystery writer of her time,” said the Waldo, in a news release.
Show dates are Thursdays - Saturdays, Sep 22, 23, 24, 29, 30, Oct 1.
Auditioners will read from scene sides; no monologue preparation is needed.
Masks are optional inside The Waldo; distanced seating is suggested.

Our Town presents the joy and drama of everyday life in the mythical town of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire. Narrated by a stage manager and performed with minimal props and sets, the play depicts the simple daily lives of the Webb and Gibbs families as their children grow up and experience love.
It calls for a large cast of adults and several teens, including central characters Emily Webb and George Gibbs (ages 15 to 17), and their younger siblings Wally and Rebecca (middle schoolers).
Rehearsals will begin at the end of March. Show dates are Thursdays - Saturdays, May 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, and 21; all evening performances.
The Waldo’s Executive Director, Kate Fletcher, will direct this first show of 2022. “It's been on my mind throughout the pandemic to bring this beloved play — written when The Waldo was being built; set in a small New England town — to our stage,” said Fletcher. “It’s a way to celebrate the heart and resilience of townsfolk everywhere; to embrace the small but precious moments in life that can fly by while we're not looking; and to remember those we've lost.”
Fletcher holds a degree in theatre and also trained in acting at Beverly Hills Playhouse in Los Angeles. She performed most recently at the Bijou Theatre in Bridgeport, CT, and served as Education Director for Elm Shakespeare Company, in New Haven, CT. In Maine, Kate helped establish the Midcoast Family Theatre, and was active at Camden Civic Theatre as a director and actor. Her past Waldo Theatre directing credit is for a 2013 production of Tennessee Williams’ Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
Masks and proof of Covid-19 vaccination are required inside The Waldo. Adults attending with children under the ages of 12 will be asked a series of standardized Covid questions. For actors and production crew, initial rehearsals will be with masks. Later rehearsals and performances will be without masks.
